St-Étienne is a French Catholic school located in Dowling that offers classes from kindergarten to Grade 12. They welcome all Canadian children and landed immigrants who match the following criteria:

  • whose first language learned and still understood is French
    OR
  • who has received instruction, at the elementary level, in French in Canada (excluding immersion)
    OR
  • a child who has received or is receiving elementary or secondary instruction in French (excluding immersion) in Canada.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Program allows children to participate in a variety of activities designed to help them explore, make discoveries and learn. Through play, singing and music, drama and language activities, children discover the world around them and learn to control their emotions behaviour and attention they can maintain effective social interactions. The day is supervised by a teacher and an educator who, as a team, give the children the opportunity to learn and play, as well as participate in more structured learning activities.

Grade 1-6

As soon as children enter kindergarten, the school evaluates them on an ongoing basis to maintain a profile that allows them to better meet the child’s needs throughout their school career. The teacher follows an elementary school framework and that of religious education in French-language Catholic schools.

Grade 7-12

In the transition and path into high school, students receive support and a wide range of choices that allow them to prepare for post-secondary education. Grade 7 and 8 teachers follow both an elementary school and religious education framework. Grade 7 to 12 teachers work to prepare students for provincial standard mathematics for post-secondary and to fulfill all conditions to obtain a high school diploma or the 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional credits, complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service and meet requirements of the Language Proficiency Test.
